Products in this Article:

  4. Boudreaux’s Butt Paste (Sensitive)
  5. Desitin Maximum Strength

Honest Company Sensitive Wipes

You may be wondering why I am starting this list off with wipes. That is understandable. I used to think it was all about the ointments and the butt pastes, but I was sadly mistaken.

Each item in the diaper-changing process is equally important. This is no different for baby wipes. You can have the best creams in the world, but if you are irritating the skin when wiping it won’t matter.

The Honest Company has some of the best wipes I have ever used. While the price tag is a tad higher than wipes from Pampers or Huggies, I feel that it has been money well spent. Plus, it is nice to back a company that is focused on being environmentally friendly.

Reasons we love this product:

  • Hypoallergenic and gentle on sensitive skin
  • Soothing and moisturizing ingredients ( aloe and chamomile)
  • Thick and durable texture
  • Biodegradable and eco-friendly materials
  • Strong and well-sealed case

Reasons you may not like this product:

  • Slightly higher price point than bigger name companies
  • Case is slightly bulkier than similar products
  • Thick wipes can be hard to get out of the case at times (most wipes have this issue unfortunately)

Pampers Aqua Pure Wipes

For around the same price point as The Honest Company wipes, these are a really great alternative. Pampers Aqua Pure are also 99% water, but instead of aloe they have included a pH-balancing lotion. Whether this is actually a huge difference is up for debate, but as someone who has used these, I must say, they are pretty great.

They do not have the grip or strength of the wipes from The Honest Company, but they clean really well and do not leave your hands feeling weird or soapy. This in part since they are primarily water, which is also ever present as they take forever to dry out when using them. This is not a bad thing at all.

Reasons we love this product:

  • Hypoallergenic and gentle for sensitive skin
  • Pretty much just water (a game-changer)
  • No added chemicals or scents (great for sensitive skin)
  • Pampers is a household-trusted name
  • Case is durable, but also packable

Reasons you may not like this product:

  • They have little to no grip
  • They bunch up in the case rather easily
  • Price point similar to The Honest Company

Now that we have discussed wipes, let’s discuss what most of us consider the most important product: diaper creams. As I stated before, all of the things used in the diaper-changing process matter. Anything that comes into contact with your baby’s skin affects their diaper rash frequency and severity. However, it is important to note that diaper cream is your baby’s first shield of defense.

Aquaphor Healing Ointment

We have used quite a few diaper creams and pastes in the past year. Some have worked well and others have not. The Aquaphor Healing Ointment for Babies is one of the most consistent and easy to use products that we have. It comes in a small jar or you can even get it in a tube. The tube does come in handy when traveling or are just out in town.

The best part about this ointment is that it is so much more than just a diaper rash cream. You can use it for any dry or chaffed skin and it is great for the parents too. We frequently use it just as a moisturizer for our own hands. It also has no fragrance and is hypoallergenic. This is great to consider if you are your baby have sensitive skin.

Reasons we love this product:

  • Easy to use and requires little to no clean up
  • Great for parents too
  • Perfect on sensitive skin (no fragrance, no harsh chemicals, hypoallergenic)
  • Multiple uses
  • Hydrates and heals

Reasons you may not like this product:

  • The tube version can be hard to squeeze out

Boudreaux’s Butt Paste

Boudreaux’s Butt Paste is a fairly well known product. Did you know that it comes in a few variations? In addition to the original paste, there are also an aloe, max strength, barrier, and sensitive skin versions. We have tried most of them and have found the sensitive skin version to be the best for our daughter.

Unlike the Aquaphor, Boudreaux’s is an actual cream. The sensitive version is a little different from the original, being that it only have five ingredients. It is mainly mineral and seed oils. This product is also recognized by the National Eczema Association for having great treatment and hydration of rash areas.

We do recommend buying the application paddle as it helps during diaper changes tremendously. This helps keep your hands clean and gives a nice even application of cream to the diaper rash. Since the paddle is soft silicone it is less likely to irritate or hurt your baby than your hand would. You can also use this paddle for any cream; it does not have to be Boudreaux’s.

Reasons we love this product:

  • It helps diaper rash tremendously
  • If applied when diaper rash appear to be forming, can mitigate the severity
  • Easy to use (with paddle) and easy to clean if a mess is made
  • Comes in different types for different skin types
  • Few ingredients and no harsh chemicals

Reason you may not like this product:

  • Since it is a paste, it can get messy
  • Some versions contain Peruvian Balsam (known allergenic fragrance additive)

Desitin Maximum Strength

When all else fails, Desitin is one of the best diaper rash products we have used. We use it when a diaper rash has gotten out of control or we can tell that our daughter is in pain. It is a very thick paste that completely coats the area. We have seen it heal diaper rash within a few hours which is great.

If you could buy only one of these products, I would say buy Desitin. Yes, it is very messy and hard to get out of clothing. However, nothing will help your child’s rash faster and gentler than this product. It soothes immediately on contact and if a diaper rash is really bad, giving your child comfort quickly is a priority.

This is a great product to use with the application paddle. Just like the Aquaphor, this paste comes in a jar and tube format. Both have great benefits which all depend on your schedule and on-the-go frequency.

Reasons we love this product:

  • Quick healing of even the worst rashes
  • No fragrance, parabens, or unnecessary ingredients
  • Easy to use
  • Tube and jar options offer travel possibilities
  • Great for overnight relief

Reasons you may not like this product:

  • Thick paste is hard to clean
